DISINTEGRATION STUDIES
For the drug to be absorbed in the body, it is essential that it disintegrates into smaller particles or granules followed by disaggregation into active pharmaceutical ingredient and excipients. Disintegration normally refers to the physical process of mechanical breakdown of the tablet which in turn exposes a larger surface area and allows the active drug to be absorbed in the body. The disintegration tests are therefore useful for analysing the rate of drug release, and may share important insights in case of immediate release formulations, sublingual tablets, or formulation that require sustained release.
